ABOUT IBSD

The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) although registered in April, 2001, under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989, the regular activity of the Institute could be started only with the appointment of its first Director on 18th January, 2003 to achieve it's mission, goal and objectives.

DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) at Imphal, Manipur was established, keeping in mind the requirement of a capable institution for finding scientific ways for the sustainable uses of the bioresources and its protection to stop the depletion of the rich biodiversity in the NER. Since its inception in 2001, IBSD Manipur has been working on various thrust areas in this context including the medicinal and aromatic plants, orchids and bamboo, ethnobiological studies, natural product chemistry, microbial diversity, fermented foods & gut microbiota, insect bio resources, freshwater bio resources and aquaculture.

RESEARCH

The hallmark of the research conducted at IBSD is its interdisciplinary nature. Sixteen research groups led by principal investigators are advancing cutting-edge research across four departments.
