Particulars
of the organization, it's functions and duties

The Institute of
Bioresources and Sustainable Development ( IBSD) was established by the Department of
Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India as an autonomous
institute in April, 2001 and the institute was registered under the Manipur
Societies Registration Act, 1989. |

The Mission,
Goal and Objectives of the institute are: |

Mission:
Bioresources development and their sustainable use through biotechnological interventions
for the socio-economic growth of the region. |
 |
Goal: Scientific
management of bioresources in the Indian region falling under Indo-Burma Biodiversity
Hotspot. |
 |
Objectives:
 |
To set up the
state of art biotechnology research facilities at Imphal which is at the centre of the
Indo-Burmese Biodiversity Hotspot for sustainable development of bioresources using -tools
of modern biology |
 |
To study and
document the unique biodiversity of bio-geographic junction of the Indian and oriental
landmasses. |
 |
To develop
biotechnological interventions for sustainable development and utilization of
bioresources. |
 |
To undertake
capacity building (human resource development) in bioresources conservation and management |
 |
To generate
technological packages for employments generation and economic progress of the region. |
 |
To collaborate
with other institutions/organizations/universities nationally and internationally in
furthering research pursuits in bioresources |

The area of
jurisdiction of the institute is the Indian region of Indo-Burma Biodiversity hotspot
which comprises the state of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram,
Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura |

The Authorities
and officers of the institute are as follows: |

authorities and officers as may be constituted/appointed as such by the Governing Council |

The Union
Minister for Science & Technology shall be the President of the Society |

Secretary,
Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India shall be
the Chairperson (Ex-Officio) of the Governing Council |

The Director of
the Institute shall be the Principal Executive Officer of the Institute |

Norms for
Discharge of functions
 |
The institute
adopted the bye-laws for Administration and Management of National Institute of
Immunology, New Delhi unless otherwise specifically amended by the Governing Council.
Anything which does not cover under the N.I.I. rules, the Central Government rules are
followed. |
