Guest lecture:
Eminent resource persons from various Research Institutions, Universities and Colleges are invited to deliver guest lectures to the students so as to share their knowledge and experience from their work areas so as to educate the students and intensify their knowledge and skills. The lectures by resource persons are made more illustrative and interactive so that the students have an opportunity to clarify their doubts and gain new ideas and knowledge which are not known to them before. The interactive session is a good platform for the students in upbringing their acquired knowledge.

Lectures by school teachers
The concerned school teachers from the selected schools were given training to familiarize themselves in smooth conduction of DNA Club’s programmes. The study materials for monthly lectures by the teachers are provided by RRA in consultation with various subject experts so as to make the students easily comprehensible. During this lecture, the teachers explain the topics in detail and interact with the students so that they could learn and cultivate maximum ideas and knowledge. In addition to this, the RRA provides power point presentations on the same topics so that the students can visualize and grasp the concept easily.
Do it yourself activity
In this activity, the students are given an opportunity to learn experimentally the theoretical knowledge they have. The required materials and equipments for this activity are provided by RRA so as to make the students equipped themselves with technical skills and knowledge. The students are given chance to have a hands on experience on various scientific aspects and mainly on relevant topics for bioresources management and conservation.
Discussion forum
A group discussion programme among students are conducted on related topics by school teachers so as to provide an opportunity to the students to share and discuss their views and ideas whatever they have cultivated during the lectures. In this activity, the students are given chance to fully interact among themselves so that they may feel free to confer and clear their doubts. Such activity facilitates them in enhancing their communication skills which will be of immense help in their future.
Competitions - Essay writing, Painting & Debate
These activities are organized with a motive to encourage students in developing their knowledge and skills. Various competitions such as essay writing, Painting competitions and Debate on the related topics of bioresources and ecology were organized by RRA in consultation with the school authorities. The competitions were conducted at school level. Such activities provide a platform to students to expose their skills and talents and contribute in polishing their capabilities and potentials. A report of all the winners in various competitions is maintained and prizes will be awarded to the winners by the RRA.
Project work
This is the most interesting activity of DNA Club where the students were asked to perform a project on a particular topic provided by RRA. The projects were given to the students, which varied from a day to a week, a short individual project or in group depending upon the topic. During the project work, the students were taught the basic concept of scientific experiments on which they were going to perform. The students were asked to collect their own data and interpret the results of their work so as to make them devote to their work. This was done so as to stimulate them in the field of scientific research and development and create interest in pursuing it as a career.
Field visit for Plant Exploration & Collection (alternate months):
The students were taken for field visits to observe and study the various ecological parameters so that they can understand the basic concept of nature which eventually helped them in conserving the locally available wide variety of natural resources.
Visits to Research Lab and Institutes (twice a year):
The students will be given opportunity to visit some of the Research Labs and Institutes of the region to explore the works carried out by various scientists in different areas of Science and Technology. Demonstration of various equipments and techniques used in scientific approaches will be made available to the students during their visit and also the students will be made aware of various biotechnological applications used for bioresources and biodiversity management and conservation.
Visits to Botanical gardens & Zoological parks (twice a year):
This activity will provide the students a sort of recreation and make them understand the value of nature. Exposure to National parks and botanical gardens will give the students an inspiration for protection and conservation of nature. The visits to zoological parks will help the students to observe and understand the habitat of animals and will create awareness among themselves in conserving the natural habitat of wild species.
Exposure visit:
The exposure visit would be made twice a year to some of the biodiversity hotspots available in the region e.g. Botanical Gardens, State Zoos, National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries, Science museums etc. This activity will help the students in understanding various locally available bioresources, their sustainable use and management.
Vacation training programme (VTP)
There will be one VTP for 3-4 weeks for the students who have appeared for class X examination. The vacation training programme is designed to train and enhance awareness in school children about the relevance of Bioresources, and the relationship between Bioresources and Biotechnology. The training programme will comprise of laboratory work, interactive lectures, individual projects, field visits etc.
