Global Sustainable Development Summit Towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goals


Date: December 5 – 6, 2016

United Nations has fixed 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) which needs to be fulfilled by the year 2030. IBSD has taken the initiatives in this direction to work towards some of these Goals from the Grass root levels to Global level. Some of the major themes for deliberations are listed below.


Major Themes

Goal 1: No Poverty – End hunger, achieve food security, improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

Goal 13: Climate Action – Taking urgent actions to combat climate change and its impacts.

Goal 15: Life on Land – Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forest, combat desertification halt, reserve land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong InstitutionsPromote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.

Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals – Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

National Stakeholders Meet on “Conservation and Sustainable Development of North East Himalayan Region” at IBSD, Imphal, Manipur during August 18-19, 2016


Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), an autonomous Research Institute of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. Of India, Imphal, Manipur is organizing a two days Stakeholders Meet during August 18-19, 2016 on “Conservation and Sustainable Development of North East Himalayan Region” at IBSD, Imphal.


The main purpose of the meeting will be;

→ To discuss Himalayan issues specific to North East: Ecology, Bio-Economy & Sustainable Development.

→ To review resource status in the North East i.e. forest, water, soil etc.

→ Agriculture, Horticulture and community participation.

→ To assess current livelihood practices & scope of ecological entrepreneurship.

→ Himalayan wisdom

→ The way ahead.

IBSD Wins ASEAN Sustainability Leadership Award for 2016

IBSD has won the ASEAN Sustainability Leadership Award for 2016 in the field of Academic Leadership for its outstanding contribution in the field of Sustainable Development.

The ASEAN Corporate Sustainability Summit and Awards were focused on the agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as defined by the theme “Empowering Sustainable Convergence”. The ceremony was organized at The Hotel Marriott in Manila, Philippines, where more than 200 delegates were participated from all over the world.

Prof. Dinabandhu Sahoo thanked the organizers and the people of ASEAN countries for this international recognition. Further, he stated that Indo -Myanmar region is amongst top 10 biodiversity hotspot in the world and has a lot of potential for biodiversity, jobs and ecosystem services and it should be protected.

National Symposium on Bioresources and Sustainable Development & 2nd National Bioresources and Sustainable Development Summit (28-29 October, 2015)

The ‘National Symposium on Bioresources and Sustainable Development & 2nd National Bioresources and Sustainable Development Summit’ is being organized jointly by the Department of Botany, NEHU and the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development, Department of Biotechnology, Takyelpat, Imphal. The Symposium will provide a platform for scientists and researchers to deliberate on strategies for sustainable development of bioresources in the country. During the symposium, Padma Shri Pramod Tandon, Professor of Botany and an eminent scholar will be felicitated on his superannuation from NEHU service on October 31, 2015.

Posters should not be more than 1.0 m width and 1.5 m height

Accommodation will be arranged on twin sharing basis in the University Guest House and Hotels at normal rate if requested on or before September 15, 2015.
